Application process: Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with CNDLS in preparing their applications, as the first stage of the developmental work that will take place during the first year of the project.
The application itself should be a narrative description of the proposed project, including the larger context out of which the project grows. The description should include at least the following:
- Applicant information: Names and departments (or relevant affiliations) of team members.
- The course, set of courses, or program that will be (re)developed in the project and the role it currently plays or will play in the department's offerings. Where does it fit in students' academic careers (e.g., a general education course, a gateway course for the major, or a program for students studying abroad)? How does the revision promise to make a significant positive impact on departmental goals or mission?
- Why have you selected this for renovation or development? Are you re-thinking larger purpose or goals? Or do you have a clear sense of what you are trying to achieve and want to develop a way to meet them more effectively?
- What pedagogical strategies do you plan to refine and/or introduce? If you are revising an existing course or program, how do you expect to change it? Whether you are working with an existing course/program or developing a new one, what pedagogical strategies or innovations do you want to introduce?
- What would you accept as evidence that the (re)development has been successful? How do you propose to gather and organize this evidence and to document what it supports?
- How do you propose to go public with the results of your project? How do you see this redevelopment plan benefiting the curriculum, department, or university? We are especially interested in funding projects that are significant both for the individual department and for other programs in the university.
- A proposed budget.
