How can I request a Blackboard organization?

UIS offers GUShare as a service for Georgetown faculty and staff to store, access, and share files via the Internet. GUShare also offers the option for students and guests without NetIDs to access files. Please see the UIS GUShare site for more information.

In cases where GUShare cannot meet your needs, you may request the creation of an organization site in Blackboard by sending an email to the UIS Help Desk at help@georgetown.edu or submitting a Blackboard Help Request Form with the following information:

  • Name of the organization as you would like it to appear in Blackboard (acronyms work best for longer names: e.g., "GURT" for "Georgetown University Round Table on Languages and Linguistics")
  • Name and NetID of a full-time GU employee who will be the primary owner of the organization (this person will be responsible for the use of the site but does not need to be the day-to-day manager of the site)
  • Department, center, or school with which the organization is most closely affiliated
  • Brief description of the ways in which the organization will use Blackboard
  • Estimated number of participants
  • Anticipated lifetime of the organization

Students requesting the creation of a Blackboard organization must provide the name and NetID of a full-time Georgetown University faculty or staff member who agrees to sponsor the organization.

They should ask the faculty/staff sponsor to send an email to help@georgetown.edu or to use the Blackboard Help Request Form to approve of the organization and accept his/her role.

I don't see my organization on my Blackboard Desktop. How do I access it?

In order to access a Blackboard organization of which you are a member, you must first add the "My Organizations" module to your Blackboard Desktop:

  • On your Blackboard Desktop, click on the "Modify Content" button located in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Under "Select Modules," place a check mark next to "My Organizations."
  • Click "Submit." The newly added module will be added to your Blackboard Desktop.
